On September 17, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation A.V. Grushko held talks in Moscow with Director of the Department for Political Affairs and Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy P. Ferrara on the preparation of a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Russian Federation and the Italian Republic in format “two plus two”. The consultations were also attended by representatives of the defense departments of the two countries.

The format and agenda of the upcoming ministerial meeting were discussed. During the meeting, a number of topical issues of bilateral cooperation were considered with an emphasis on the development of multifaceted interaction in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields.

An exchange of views took place on key international issues, including European security, Russia’s relations with the European Union and NATO, and the situation in the Balkans. Special attention was paid to the state of affairs in Afghanistan.

They underscored the disposition to further develop contacts between the foreign policy and defense departments of the two countries in the interests of an effective and balanced solution of pressing international problems. A plan of consultations between the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Italian Foreign Ministry for 2022 was signed.
