In a year and a half, Moscow doctors have cured almost 1.5 million patients with COVID-19.

A monument to the Feat of Medical Workers in the Fight Against COVID-19 was unveiled in the capital. It is located in the park of the Clinical campus of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov. The ceremony was attended by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatyana Golikova, Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko.

Sergei Sobyanin recalled that it was Moscow, as the largest metropolis and transfer center, that bore the brunt of the pandemic. The health care system of the capital has been working in mobilization mode for many months, and the rest of the services provide doctors with full assistance.

The Mayor of Moscow thanked the residents who took the initiative to create a monument to doctors fighting coronavirus infection.

“The main gratitude of Muscovites for the fact that they feel that in the most difficult moments, doctors never leave them unattended, without psychological support and professional, high-quality medical care,” said Sergei Sobyanin.

The Moscow Mayor added that the main merit of medical workers is almost one and a half million Muscovites who have been cured of coronavirus.

“Tens of thousands of lives have been saved, and, perhaps, this is the main memory. And of course, I thank all the workers and the health care system of Moscow, and the Ministry of Health, who as one stood up to fight, all those who are involved in this work, ”said Sergei Sobyanin.

Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko thanked not only medical workers for their contribution to the fight against the pandemic, but also volunteers, creators of covid hospitals, and manufacturers of medical products.

“We are faced with a disease unknown to us earlier. And a year and a half ago, despite the fact that each of us experienced some kind of anxiety, a sense of apprehension, doctors entered the red zone, began to provide assistance to patients, regardless of their own time, including family problems. At that moment, the support of all citizens of the country was needed, ”Mikhail Murashko said.

Today, about 280 thousand medical workers are engaged in solving problems related to the treatment of patients with coronavirus, said Tatyana Golikova, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia for Social Policy.

“Our esteemed doctors, our volunteers, our students, ambulance drivers, nurses, nannies – a large army of people who, in one way or another, dedicated themselves to the most precious thing – saving human lives – are at the forefront to this day,” she said. – This monument to the winners will remain for centuries. You and I will leave, and he, embodied in stone, bronze, will remain here and remind everyone of this struggle and pandemic. “

The monument is a monumental stele crowned with a cross, the front part of which is formed of letters with a dedicatory inscription: “The feat of medical workers in the fight against COVID-19.” On the stele under the cross there is a sculptural composition: figures of doctors, behind them – the Earth. Doctors save the world by defeating the virus. The author of the monument is Salavat Shcherbakov, academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of Russia.
