The unit for combating unmanned aircraft of the 58th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District (YuVO), together with the military personnel of South Ossetia, destroyed low-flying enemy targets during bilateral battalion tactical exercises at the Dzartsem training ground.

The military used new methods of dealing with low-flying unmanned aerial vehicles. The unit within the squad identified the target, classified it and hit it with small arms.

Also, electronic warfare specialists performed electromagnetic masking of artillery positions from unmanned aircraft. The fictitious enemy attempted to drop improvised explosive devices on the units. With the help of jamming stations, the servicemen worked out actions to disable the enemy’s satellite reconnaissance and radio communications.

The new methodology was developed taking into account the combat experience gained during counter-terrorism operations in Syria.

In total, more than 1,000 servicemen of the Southern Military District were involved in the draws of tactical combat actions within the framework of bilateral exercises in South Ossetia, about 200 units of weapons and military equipment were involved, including T-72 tanks, BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, anti-aircraft cannon-missile system Tunguska, Strela anti-aircraft missile system, Akatsia self-propelled artillery mounts, Sani mortars, AGS-17 and RPG-7V automatic and hand-held grenade launchers.

In the Southern Military District, four bilateral battalion tactical exercises are being conducted at combined-arms training grounds located in the Volgograd region, Karachay-Cherkessia, Chechnya and at a military base in the Republic of South Ossetia. About 6 thousand servicemen take part in them, about 300 pieces of weapons and equipment are involved, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery pieces and multiple launch rocket systems. For the purpose of interspecific interaction, more than 40 aircraft and helicopters of army and operational-tactical aviation have been attracted from the association of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Military District.
