Units of the motorized rifle formation of the Eastern Military District, stationed in the city of Kyakhta (Republic of Buryatia), have completed the loading of military equipment onto railway platforms for departure to Mongolia to participate in the Russian-Mongolian military exercise “Selenga-2021”

For the redeployment of about 100 weapons and more than 600 military personnel of the Air Defense Forces at the Naushki station (Republic of Buryatia), two railway echelons were prepared.

In the course of preparatory measures for the joint Russian-Mongolian exercise, control exercises were held for admission to participation in the exercise, and the readiness of the leadership apparatus from the Russian side was checked. At the final stage, a tactical exercise with live fire was conducted with the subunits.

The day before, from the point of permanent deployment, motorized rifle subunits made a march of more than 30 km to the loading station of Naushki.

The opening of the Selenga exercise will take place in a field camp at the Doityn Am training ground in Mongolia.

As previously reported, motorized rifle and tank units, a mortar battery, BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket systems, a flamethrower platoon, and reconnaissance units will take part in the international exercise from the Air Defense Forces.

“Selenga – 2021” is the fourteenth joint exercise, in which the military personnel of the Air Defense Forces will take part. From 2008 to 2010, the maneuvers were called “Darkhan” (translated from Mongolian – “Blacksmith”). Since 2011, the international doctrine has been renamed after the Selenga River, which flows through the territory of Mongolia and Russia.

The Selenga international exercise has been held annually since 2008, during which Russian and Mongolian servicemen are practicing joint actions to search for, blockade and destroy conditional illegal armed formations.
