The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan have completed the formation of an aviation grouping to participate in the joint military anti-terrorist command and staff exercise of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Peace Mission 2021 at the Donguz training ground in the Orenburg region.
The exercise involved 30 aircraft and helicopters, including multifunctional Su-34 fighter-bombers, Su-24MR reconnaissance aircraft, Su-25 attack aircraft, Mi-24 attack helicopters and Mi-8 combat transport helicopters, as well as Il-76 aircraft. The aviation group, which is based on three airfields in the Orenburg and Chelyabinsk regions, included flight crews of aviation units from five regions of Russia, the united Russian military base Kant in Kyrgyzstan and pilots of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The joint military anti-terrorist command and staff exercise of the armed forces of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization “Peace Mission 2021” is held from September 20 to 24 at the Donguz training ground in the Orenburg region
The main objectives of the exercise are: improving the coherence of the control bodies of the coalition grouping of forces in the preparation and conduct of a joint anti-terrorist operation, exchange of experience in countering terrorism, as well as mastering the basic tactics and methods of action of forces (troops) under the leadership of a joint military command body.
About 5.5 thousand servicemen and over 1.2 thousand units of weapons, military and special equipment are involved in practical actions. The joint anti-terrorist exercises of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization “Peace Mission” have been held every two years since the organization was founded in 2001. The first of them took place in August 2003 on the territory of Kazakhstan and China.
