On September 19, 1958, in order to strengthen control over the operation of vehicles and prevent road accidents, a military automobile inspection of the Moscow garrison was formed.

The main task of the unit by that time was to monitor the use of military vehicles on public roads and prevent accidents.

On March 1, 2006, the VAI of the Moscow garrison was reorganized into the 100th Military Automobile Inspectorate (territorial, Moscow).

Since December 1, 2011, 100 VAI has been part of the Main Directorate of the Military Police of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

At present, the Moscow military traffic inspectorate performs a large amount of tasks aimed primarily at reducing road accidents and the severity of their consequences in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, improving driving culture among military drivers, participating in ensuring road safety during state tasks, such as a parade.
