Soldiers of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh ensured a safe visit to the Amaras monastery for about 100 pilgrims who came from Armenia.

The shrine, located near the demarcation line in the Martutninsky region, is visited by pilgrims from Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as from Armenia and other countries.

“We came from Armenia, we really wanted to come, but there were problems with fear and the opportunity to come, but thanks to the peacekeepers that we were able to come here in peace. The peacekeepers are very respectful to us, thank you. We rode all the way calmly, it was just morally difficult for us, but we see that the peacekeepers are fulfilling their tasks and we are calm from this. They are very generous and even in Armenian they were interested in our well-being. Thanks to them for that, ”said the pilgrim Gayane Mkhitaryan.

Peacekeepers ensure the safety of pilgrims while on the move and visiting the Amaras monastery complex and during church services.

“Russian peacekeepers are ensuring the safety of the pilgrims who arrived at the Amaras monastery complex. This shrine is located near the demarcation line, so the presence of peacekeepers is necessary, ”said Alexander Korolev, a representative of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.

As part of the implementation of the trilateral statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia dated November 9, 2020, Russian peacekeepers continue to assist in the restoration of peaceful life in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Amaras is one of the early medieval Christian monasteries and is located in the Martuni region. In medieval Armenia it had the status of a famous religious and cultural center.

As a result of the signing of a ceasefire agreement, after the end of hostilities, the early medieval Amaras monastery was in the immediate vicinity of the demarcation line. The servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh regularly ensure the safety of pilgrims wishing to visit this shrine.

In accordance with the agreements specified in the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, from 00:00 Moscow time on November 10 this year. a complete ceasefire and all hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh have been declared.

A peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation has been deployed to control the ceasefire and military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh.
