Today marks 35 years since the first raising of the naval flag on the missile cruiser of the Northern Fleet “Marshal Ustinov”. In connection with this event, a solemn formation of personnel and a meeting took place on the ship. Together with the naval flag and jacke, topmast flags and flags of coloring were raised, in a festive version.

Commander of the Northern Fleet, Hero of Russia, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, took part in the solemn events. He congratulated the crew of the cruiser on the 35th anniversary of the ship, noting that thanks to the repair and modernization carried out several years ago, the ship fully meets modern requirements, which is proved by its successful participation in the exercises of the Northern Fleet and the Russian Navy. The fleet commander wished the crew good health and continued success in military work.

Speaking to the personnel, the commander of the cruiser, Captain 2nd Rank Andrei Krivoguzov, emphasized that out of 230 thousand nautical miles that the ship had covered in 35 years of service in the Northern Fleet, more than half of this distance fell on the last 4 years, when the cruiser completed the tasks of several long voyages to the shores of Africa and became a permanent participant in the Main Naval Parade of the Navy in St. Petersburg.

A week ago, the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov successfully fired the Vulcan anti-ship cruise missile at a target position simulating an enemy landing force in the Barents Sea, and also completed a number of other combat training missions on the border of the Norwegian and Barents seas.

For reference:

The missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov was built at the Nikolaev shipyard in 1986. At the same plant, all heavy aircraft carrying cruisers of the USSR Navy were built, including the “Admiral of the Soviet Union Fleet Kuznetsov”.

RRC “Marshal Ustinov” became the third ship of project 1164. Its “brothers” – missile cruisers “Moskva” and “Varyag” – are the flagships of the Black Sea and Pacific fleets, respectively.

During the years of service of the RRC, “Marshal Ustinov” has repeatedly occupied the first places among surface ships of the Russian Navy in terms of training types, and was declared the best ship of the Northern Fleet.

The cruiser is equipped with modern air defense systems, missile anti-ship and anti-submarine weapons, artillery, torpedoes and depth charges, electronic warfare systems, hydroacoustic and radio-technical weapons.
