As part of a working trip to the formations and military units of the Airborne Forces, the Commander of the Airborne Forces, Hero of Russia, Colonel-General Andrei Serdyukov arrived at the Pskov Guards Airborne Assault Formation, where he will conduct the commissioning of the fully formed 237th Guards Airborne Assault Torunsky Red Banner regiment, which became the third airborne assault regiment as part of the famous Pskov formation.

Upon arrival at the formation, the commander of the Airborne Forces heard a report from the commander of the guard regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Mikhail Tkachev, on the state of affairs in the regiment and its staffing level. Before the start of the event, Colonel-General Andrei Serdyukov congratulated the regiment commander on the birth of his daughter, who became the fourth child in his family, presented a gift and wished the children to grow up strong and healthy.

Later, Colonel-General Andrei Serdyukov held a drill inspection of personnel, during which he presented state awards to distinguished servicemen of the formation and handed the keys to the new UAZ-Patriot service vehicles to the command of the new airborne assault regiment.

Addressing the regiment’s personnel, the commander of the troops noted: “The 237th Guards Airborne Assault Regiment as part of the 76th Division. This is one of the illustrious regiments, which has a glorious tradition, and today you are all the soldiers of this regiment. I wish you that, having passed all the necessary training, the regiment next year will take the leading positions in the Airborne Forces. You have to master new equipment and weapons, carry out professional training of each serviceman and achieve high results. “

Then the commander of the Airborne Forces got acquainted with the infrastructure of the regiment, where he examined the new dining room, designed for 1,500 seats and 3,000 meals, the airborne complex, the parachute class, as well as the new and renovated soldiers’ hostels in which the regiment’s units are located.

Today, the Commander of the Airborne Forces will inspect the regiment’s weapons, military and special equipment, the park zone, and also inspect the storage areas and training grounds of the formation.

The regiment was formed in accordance with the order of the NKO of the USSR in the period from August 19 to September 1, 1939 in the city of Novorossiysk. The formation was carried out on the basis of the 2nd battalion of the 221st rifle Chernigov regiment of the 74th rifle Taman division.

On September 1, 1939, the regiment received the name 633th Infantry Regiment and became part of the 157th Infantry Division. The regiment was based in Novorossiysk until September 13, 1941.

During the Great Patriotic War, by order of the NKO No. 104 of March 1, 1943, the regiment was transformed into the 237th Guards Rifle Regiment, and the entire 157th Rifle Division received the name of the 76th Guards Rifle Division.

By order of the Minister of the Armed Forces in 1949, March 1 established the annual holiday of the 237th Guards Rifle Torun Red Banner Regiment.

In 1988, the regiment was reorganized into the 237th Guards Parachute Torun Red Banner Regiment.

On June 22, 2001, in accordance with the directive of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the regiment was disbanded, and its Battle Banner was transferred to the Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

In accordance with the directive of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation – First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, from December 1, 2018, the regiment was restored as part of the Pskov Guards Airborne Assault Formation, and from September 1, 2021 it was fully formed to full state.
