In the Crimea, pilots of the Northern Fleet’s ship-based fighter aviation regiment in the Su-33 have embarked on the final stage of the flight training program at the ground engineering and technical aviation complex (NITKA), which simulates the flight deck of a heavy aircraft carrier.

Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, Colonel Pavel Podguzov (one of the students of the legendary pilot Hero of Russia Timur Apakidze), several young pilots were trained who were able to independently land on a ground simulator with an air finisher cable hook.

Training of deck fighter pilots of the Northern Fleet in Crimea continues for several weeks. In the first half of October, they will return to the base airfield in the Kola Arctic.

During training on the ground simulator, young and experienced pilots practice and restore their skills of landing on the deck of an aircraft carrier. They go through a full training cycle from takeoff from a ship’s air ramp to landing on a limited section of the strip with a hook on the cable.

After completing the training process in the Crimea with deck fighter pilots on the Su-33 on a ground simulator, they will be replaced by colleagues from a separate shipborne fighter regiment on the MiG-29K.
