On September 21, at the initiative of Russia, a regular meeting of the CIS Joint Consultative Commission on Disarmament Matters (JCCC) was held in Minsk, dedicated to biological security issues.

The negotiations were attended by representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee.

A “synchronization of clocks” was carried out on the situation in the field of biological security, a confidential exchange of views took place on a wide range of issues of cooperation in this area within the CIS, as well as interaction on specialized multilateral platforms, primarily the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons and the UN General Assembly.

The participants reaffirmed the readiness of the CIS states to continue to coordinate actions and act from a consolidated position in order to achieve the goals of ensuring lasting peace and strengthening international security.

The next meeting of the JCCR will be held in Minsk in the first half of 2022.
