The second railway military echelon with weapons and military equipment and servicemen of the motorized rifle unit of the Eastern Military District, stationed in the Republic of Buryatia, was met at the Maant railway station near Ulan Bator (Mongolia). Russian servicemen arrived to participate in the annual joint Russian-Mongolian exercise Selenga-2021.

The servicemen completed one of the most difficult elements of combat training, the standard for unloading military equipment from a railway platform.

After that, the assistant commander of a motorized rifle unit for work with believing servicemen, Buddhist cleric Bair Lama held a prayer service with the servicemen, after which the units marched to the Doityn Am training ground about 60 km long, where training and an active phase of the exercise will take place.

Upon arrival at the field camp, the crews of combat vehicles organized the maintenance of weapons and military equipment in the territory of the field park.

As previously reported, motorized rifle and tank units, a mortar battery, BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket systems, a flamethrower platoon, and a barrel artillery unit will take part in the international exercise from the Air Defense Forces. In total, up to one and a half thousand servicemen and over 200 units of weapons and military equipment from the Russian and Mongolian sides will be involved.

The Selenga exercise is aimed at combating international terrorism. During the exercise, the military personnel of the two countries, using various tactics of modern combat, eliminate conditional illegal armed formations.

For reference:

The Russian-Mongolian exercise “Selenga” has been held annually since 2008. Until 2011, it was a tactical exercise with live fire and was called “Darkhan” (translated from Mongolian “Builder”). In 2011, the maneuvers were renamed after the name of the river originating in Mongolia, flowing through the territory of the Republic of Buryatia and flowing into Lake Baikal. From that time on, the teachings began to have an anti-terrorist orientation.

Last year, the exercise took place at the Munh Khat training ground in Mongolia, during which the participants worked out the tasks of jointly destroying conditional illegal armed groups and protecting a settlement in the border area.
