The use of the tactical breakthrough group in mountainous conditions in the exercise of motorized riflemen of the combined-arms army of the Southern Military District (YuVO) was assessed by the commander of the Southern Military District, Army General Alexander Dvornikov.

The battalion tactical group of the 19th motorized rifle division for the first time used in a training battle a tactical group for breaking through the enemy’s defense, operating in the system of a sniper reconnaissance and fire complex. In addition to sniper pairs with ASVK and SVD rifles, a tank-sniper and crews of the Kornet and Chrysanthemum anti-tank complexes were involved in breaking through the defenses of the mock enemy. To make a passage in a minefield in the interests of motorized riflemen, tanks equipped with mine trawls and UR-88 demining engineering installations completed the tasks.
New methods of battle formation with the use of various tactical groups are being practiced in the practice of bilateral tactical exercises at various levels, from company to regiment.
Bilateral battalion and regimental tactical exercises in the Southern Military District are held simultaneously at four training grounds in the district in the Rostov region, South Ossetia, Chechnya and the Crimea. About 10 thousand servicemen take part in them, about 800 pieces of weapons and equipment are involved, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery pieces and multiple launch rocket systems. For the purpose of interspecific interaction, more than 40 aircraft and helicopters of army and operational-tactical aviation have been attracted from the association of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Military District.
