At the Donguzsky training ground in the Orenburg region, a meeting of the chiefs of general staffs of the armed forces of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states ended.

The meeting was attended by military delegations from Russia, India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus.

Summing up the results, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation – First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, who presides over the meeting, said that “the joint work, as always, proceeded in a confidential and constructive manner.”

“A thorough exchange of views took place on the evolving military-political situation, issues of countering modern challenges and threats were discussed,” said the head of the Russian General Staff.

Valery Gerasimov also noted that during the meeting, “the situation in Afghanistan and its impact on the creation of prerequisites for the growth of security threats in the SCO member states were analyzed,” which include the export of terrorist activity, complication of humanitarian aid in connection with the influx of Afghan refugees and an increase volumes of drug trafficking.

The heads of the general staffs of the SCO member states noted the need for coordinated joint actions to neutralize these threats.

“We agreed to hold systematic consultations between our countries in order to prevent the overflow of destabilizing processes on the territory of the Organization’s member states,” said the deputy head of the Russian military department.
