The organizing committee of the All-Russian open competition of playwrights “Power of the Word” for the best play for drama theaters of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, based on the results of the study of the works, determined the winners and the owner of the Grand Prix.

In the category “Good Word” (plays for children), the winner was E.A. Kollegova (Moscow) with the fairy-tale comedy “The Adventures of the Match”. The play tells about the boy Match, who lives with his grandmother in the magical land of candles and finds his parents. Various tests await the hero, which show him and the young viewer what real courage, friendship, resourcefulness and mutual assistance are.

The winner in the category “Honest Word” (plays for teenagers and youth) was A. Gorbachev (Moscow region) with the fantastic comedy “DD”. The play in a light and dynamic form tells about the adventures of the students of the modern Suvorov military school, who learn the basics of officer honor and military comradeship, receiving life lessons not only from the officers-educators, but also from their distant predecessors – the cadets of the Imperial Pages Corps, and in the most incredible way …

S.V. Shimone (Tver region) with the military-historical drama “Frenchman”. The play shows the greatness of the Victory of the Russian people in the Patriotic War of 1812 from an unusual perspective – through the eyes of an officer of the Napoleonic army, who, with incorruptible sincerity, tells about his path: from the dashing imperial march through Europe and the invasion of Russia, to the tragic defeat and humiliating flight from it.

The jury’s Grand Prix was awarded to the military-historical drama “The General” by A.E. Pozdnyakov. (Moscow city). This large-scale play is dedicated to the legendary feat of the outstanding Soviet commander, the greatest military engineer – Lieutenant General Dmitry Karbyshev and tells a heartfelt story about the heroes who managed to show the incredible strength and power of the human spirit in captivity of the enemy. In the play, the author very expressively showed “a man in war”. The main conflict is the hardest trials that befell the main character, General Kartsev. He faces a difficult choice, and he makes the only correct, moral decision.

The All-Russian open competition of playwrights “Power of the Word” for the best play for drama theaters of the Russian Ministry of Defense was first held by the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in 2020-2021. with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Union of Theater Workers of Russia, the Union of Journalists of Russia, the Russian Society “Knowledge”, the National Association of Playwrights, the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography named after S.A. Gerasimov, as well as the A.M. Gorky Literary Institute.

More than 200 plays entered the competition from 33 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, as well as from authors writing in Russian and living in the near and far abroad (Latvia, Czech Republic, Israel), which were accepted for the competition as an exception.

In addition to professional authors, servicemen and civilian personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation – cadets of higher military educational institutions, employees of housing support bodies of the Russian Ministry of Defense, employees of clubs and libraries of military units, representatives of military-political bodies – also took an active part in the competition.

The selection and evaluation of the works was carried out by the jury of the competition consisting of the chief directors and heads of the literary sections of the drama theaters: the Eastern Military District (Ussuriysk), the Baltic Fleet (St. Petersburg), the Pacific Fleet (Vladivostok), the Northern Fleet (St. Murmansk), as well as the Boris Lavrenev Black Sea Fleet (Sevastopol).

Each participant of the competition will be awarded a commemorative certificate
and, if desired, included in the creative literary reserve of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Participants can confirm their desire to enter this reserve by informing the organizing committee about it.

The solemn ceremony of awarding the winners and laureates of the competition is scheduled for November 2021 in Moscow.
