Gymnasium No. 4 of the city of Saratov was awarded the honorary name of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Colonel-General of Aviation Vladimir Mikhailovich Bezbokov.

At the solemn ceremony of naming the educational institution, a memorial plaque in his memory was also unveiled. The memorial plaque installed at the entrance to the gymnasium bears the surname, name and patronymic of the Hero of the Soviet Union, as well as his military merits.

The event was attended by servicemen and veterans of long-range aviation, representatives of the administration and patriotic clubs of the region.

Addressing the participants, the speakers paid special attention to the importance of protecting historical memory, respect for the feats of arms and labor of older generations.

Vladimir Mikhailovich Bezbokov was born on June 14, 1922 in the city of Atkarsk, Saratov region.

In March 1941 he graduated from the Saratov Military Aviation Pilot School. He served as a pilot for a long-range bomber aviation regiment in the Leningrad Military District.

Took part in the defense of Moscow and Leningrad, Vyazemskaya airborne and Voronezh-Voroshilogvardeyskaya operations, the Battle of Stalingrad, Krasnodar operation, the Battle of Kursk, Oryol, Sumy-Priluksk, Krasnosel’sko-Ropsha, Bobruisk, Yassko-Kishinev, East-Karpaty, East-Carpathian Berlin operations.

During the war, he flew 262 combat missions on TB-3 and Li-2 aircraft to bombard enemy personnel and equipment, as well as to deliver cargo and weapons to partisans.

For courage and heroism shown in battles against the Nazi invaders, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
