The annual training camp of the EMERCOM of Russia aviation was held on the basis of the Southern Aviation Rescue Center of the EMERCOM of Russia in the city of Mineralnye Vody.

The flight instructors of the Aviation and Aviation Rescue Technologies Directorate, the Aviation Rescue Centers of the EMERCOM of Russia, as well as the rescuers of the Southern Regional Search and Rescue Unit of the EMERCOM of Russia and the Zhukovsky Aviation Rescue Center of the EMERCOM of Russia worked out in mountainous terrain.

During the trainings, the skills of flying, rescue in mountainous terrain with landing on sites up to 4.5 thousand meters high were consolidated. Rescuers performed parachute and non-parachute landing using roller descenders and a cargo winch.

According to experts, flights in the summer in mountains with steep slopes, sharp ridges, cliffs, and sharp ledges of rocks are of particular difficulty. Due to the uneven heating of the mountain slopes, strong ascending and descending currents are formed, which move upward on the sunny side, and downward along the shady side. These movements must be taken into account during takeoffs and landings from high-altitude sites, as well as when piloting at extremely low altitudes. Flying in close proximity to mountain ranges in windy weather is very difficult – in such conditions, the controllability of the helicopter worsens.

In addition, in real conditions, within the framework of training, the interaction of the aviation and ground groups of the Russian Emergencies Ministry was worked out during search and rescue operations in mountainous areas.
