Excursions, quests and quizzes, which will acquaint you with the historical and cultural heritage of the capital, will be held from September 26 to October 31. Most of the events are offline. The visit is free of charge upon prior registration on the Discover Moscow portal.

To learn the secrets and legends of the capital’s streets, get acquainted with the history of architectural monuments and explore the main sights of the metro, the Moscow City Heritage Site invites. From September 26 to October 31, the capital will host more than 60 free educational events in offline and online format. The program is dedicated to European Heritage Days. “These days we invite you to get acquainted with the historical and cultural heritage of Moscow, stroll through the old districts – Gorokhovy Pole and Khitrovka, Prechistenka and Spiridonovka, Myasnitskaya and Petrovka streets, accompanied by professional guides and bloggers. The program includes events that will be of interest to people of all ages. These are not only educational walks, but also quests, as well as excursions, quizzes. This is a walking tour format during which participants have to answer questions. They, unlike the quest, have nothing to do with other points of the route, “said the head of the Department of Cultural Heritage.

On September 26 at 14:30 an excursion called “The Legendary Hitrovka” will take place. The meeting point is at the monument to Cyril and Methodius. Khitrov market, or Khitrovka, in the 19th century was located between Pokrovsky Boulevard and Solyanka. The program of the route includes the Church of All Saints on Kulishki, the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Podkopai, as well as examples of civil architecture.

And on World Architecture Day, which this year is celebrated on October 4, there will be a quiz excursion “Melody in Stone”. Start – at 18:00 in the lecture hall of the “Worker and Collective Farm Woman” pavilion. Participants will have to play several rounds, answering questions about the famous architects of the city and their creations. Those who answer more questions will receive commemorative prizes at the end of the quiz, as well as free certificates for the city promenade performance. It will take place on October 9th.

The quiz tour “Unknown details of well-known houses” will take place on October 5 and 15. This is a chance to visually study architectural rarities in the decoration of buildings. The walk through the center of Moscow will begin at the San Galli passage (Kuznetsky Most street, 11, building 1) and end at the mansion of Arseny Morozov on Vozdvizhenka.

On October 10 at 16:00 everyone is invited to take part in the quest “Mysteries of Moscow”. The route will run from the Hermitage Garden to Sretensky Boulevard. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the urban secrets of the center of Moscow. They will learn the stories and legends associated with the Sukharev Tower, walk along Tsvetnoy Boulevard, which, by the way, was not the best place for evening walks in the second half of the 19th century. The meeting point is the fountain at the central entrance to the Hermitage garden.

And during a tour of Balchug Island, participants will visit the chambers of the 17th-18th centuries that once belonged to the Duma clerk Averky Kirillov, learn the history of the First House of the Council of People’s Commissars and the All-Russian Central Executive Committee, known as the House on the Embankment. In addition, the guide will acquaint tourists with industrial architecture – they will see the buildings of the Einem (Red October) factory and the building of the former HPP-2. The event will take place on 15 and 18 October. Participants will be waiting at the Prechistenskiye Vorota square near the Kropotkinskaya metro station at 17:00.

On October 17, children from 10 to 16 years old are invited to the underground quest “Temple of Underground Art”. Answering questions, young guests will be able to view stained glass windows, mosaics and other architectural elements that have turned the Moscow metro into an underground palace and one of the city’s main attractions.

And on October 31, you can go through the quest along Arbat Street and its environs. Instead of paper route sheets – a smartphone. Participants will receive questions through a special application and answer them there.

Those who prefer to stay at home in autumn weather will be able to watch video tours of the old mansions and estates of the city, which are closed for free visits. You can watch the videos on YouTube channel Moscow City Heritage Site.

The program includes three virtual trips. These are tours of the Dunker mansion on Povarskaya street, the Dumnov-Markov city estate in Kalashny lane and the Olenina-Dumnov mansion in Maly Kislovsky lane. European Heritage Days are held annually in autumn in various European cities, including Moscow. It is a joint annual event between the Council of Europe and the European Commission. These days, historical buildings are opened for visiting, new cultural programs are presented, exhibitions, conferences, excursions, concerts are held.
