In the village of Oktyabrskoye, Krasnogvardeisky district of the Republic of Crimea, a solemn ceremony was held to unveil a monument to the Hero of Russia, captain of the medical service Sergei Kosachev.

The ceremony was attended by the command and servicemen of the army corps of the Black Sea Fleet (Black Sea Fleet), a delegation of special forces from the Rostov region, where Sergei Kosachev served, representatives of the administration of the Republic of Crimea and public organizations, students of the local school and youth soldiers.

The monument to Sergei Kosachev, who died in the line of military duty during the counter-terrorist operation in the Chechen Republic in 1996, was made with voluntary donations from combat veterans and at the initiative of Hero of Russia Vladimir Nedobezhkin.

Flowers were laid at the foot of the monument, which was opened to the sound of fireworks and the Anthem of the Russian Federation. The rally ended with the passage of the Guard of Honor company.

Sergey Kosachev was born in the village of Oktyabrskoye of the Krasnogvardeisky District of the Republic of Crimea on February 2, 1960.

On the night of January 17-18, 1996, Kosachev personally participated in a battle with bandit groups trying to break out of the encirclement in the village of Pervomayskoye of the Chechen Republic, and he assisted the wounded. When trying to take out a seriously wounded soldier from under the shelling, he died.

By the decree of the President of the Russian Federation of May 15, 1996, for “courage and heroism shown during the performance of a special assignment”, the captain of the medical service Sergei Kosachev was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Russian Federation.
