The cadets of the military training center of the Ural Federal University, studying at the Department of Engineering Troops, have started passing the final certification exams. The exams consist of theoretical and practical parts. Teachers of the military training center, as well as officers of the Engineering Troops Directorate of the Central Military District, take exams for future officers.

Certification events take place over two days. On the first day, cadets answer theoretical questions from members of the commission, and then demonstrate practical skills. In February, each of them will be awarded the rank of “lieutenant”, and then the young men will go to places of military service.

In total, this year, the military department of engineering troops of the military training center of the Ural Federal University will graduate 30 lieutenants. Since January 2020, the military department of engineering troops bears the name of the hero of the Russian Federation, Major A.I. Kobin.

Alexander Kobin was born on September 21, 1959 – head of the engineering service of the 506th motorized rifle regiment of the Ural Military District, major. On October 18, 1995, a convoy commanded by Major Kobin was ambushed by Chechen fighters. In battle, the officer organized cover for the personnel and did not allow the enemy to approach vehicles with ammunition. However, after one of the fuel trucks was blown up, burning fuel poured into Kobin, rushing to the river and shooting down, he made his way to the fighters leading the battle and organized a perimeter defense until the arrival of aviation. After the battle, he was sent to the hospital, where he later died of his wounds and burns. Hero of the Russian Federation (1997).
