The memorial plaque was created at the initiative of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia by sculptor Denis Stretovich and architect Alexander Dzhikia.

The opening ceremony was attended by employees of the Department of Cultural Heritage, representatives of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, the Russian Military Historical Society, as well as cultural figures.

Soviet and Russian screenwriter and teacher Valentin Yezhov was born on January 21, 1921 in Samara. After graduating from the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), he later became a professor, directed his script workshop at the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors.

Valentin Yezhov is a participant in the Great Patriotic War. He was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree (2001) – for his great contribution to the development of cinematography, the Order of the October Revolution (1981) – for his services in the development of Soviet cinematography and in connection with the 60th anniversary of his birth, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor , the Order of the Patriotic War II degree (1985), the Lenin Prize (1961) – for the film “The Ballad of a Soldier”, the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of literature and art in 1997 – for the feature film “White Sun of the Desert”. In 1962, the screenplay for The Ballad of a Soldier was nominated for an Oscar. In 1976, Valentin Yezhov received the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR. Laureate of the Lenin Prize (1961) and the State Prize of the Russian Federation (1998).

Valentin Yezhov died on May 8, 2004 in Moscow.
