On the territory of the Pskov, Smolensk regions and St. Petersburg, the pilots of the army aviation of the Leningrad Air Force and Air Defense Association of the Western Military District performed training flights at night.

During the training flights, the crews of the Mi-8 multipurpose transport helicopters, the Mi-35, Mi-24, Mi-28 Night Hunter reconnaissance and attack helicopters searched for and recognized air and ground targets using electronic reconnaissance equipment and night vision goggles. -1. The pilots worked out at the airfield the technique of ground maneuvering, takeoff and landing in conditions of limited visibility, as well as piloting for visual orientation.

The main task when piloting at night is the most hidden movement to the objects of the “enemy”. For this purpose, the lighting equipment in the helicopter cabins is turned off as much as possible.

The flights were carried out at low and extremely low altitudes (up to 50 m) both in single order and in pairs and flights. In total, more than 100 flights were flown.
