On September 29, Moscow hosted inter-ministerial consultations of the CIS member states on cooperation within the framework of UNESCO.

The meeting, chaired by the Russian Federation, was attended by the executive secretaries of the National Commissions for UNESCO and employees of the foreign ministries of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as employees of the Executive Committee CIS. A representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Moscow was present as an observer.

The meeting was held in a constructive and interested atmosphere. A meaningful exchange of views took place on the coordination of the activities of the Commonwealth countries in UNESCO, the preservation of UNESCO world cultural and natural heritage sites, interaction within the framework of the International Convention against Doping in Sport 2005, strengthening the potential of the UNITWIN program and developing a network of UNESCO Chairs, cooperation in the field of ethics of artificial intelligence and the establishment of practical interaction between the CIS and UNESCO.

The consultations made it possible to determine promising directions for further conjugation of efforts of the CIS member states in UNESCO and “synchronize watches” in relation to the most important issues on the agenda of universal intergovernmental cooperation in the humanitarian sphere.

The regular inter-ministerial consultations of the Commonwealth member states on the subject of UNESCO are scheduled for September 2022 in Minsk at the site of the CIS Executive Committee.
