It is important not to scare the animal or take it with your bare hands.
In autumn, young bats sometimes come to the houses of Muscovites, who are looking for a place for wintering. Mospriroda specialists told how to behave when meeting with bats.
There are six species of bats in the capital – the red noch, brown long-eared bat, wild bat, water bat, Brandt’s bat, and two-tone leather. All of them are listed in the Red Book of Moscow. These are protected animals, the extermination of which is prohibited by law. Bats bring great benefits to people – they eat more than 200 harmful insects per hour.
Bats live in the natural and historical parks “Bitsevsky Les”, “Kuzminki-Lyublino” and in the Izmailovsky forest park. They can also be seen in other natural areas of Moscow.
These animals settle in old or abandoned buildings, squares, courtyards and even in entrances or on balconies.
When meeting with a bat, you must not panic, frighten and take the animal with your bare hands, as well as feed and harm it.
If a bat has flown into the room, do not panic. You need to isolate her in the room and wait for her to calm down. Then you should put on tight gloves, cover the animal with a towel, put it in a box with holes no wider than one centimeter and let it out if the weather is warm and the bat is healthy. If there are signs of injury or illness, it is necessary to take her to bats rehabilitation center at the Moscow Zoo.
The bat can be a carrier of various diseases. Therefore, in case of a bite, you need to treat the wound with an antiseptic and consult a doctor.
