On October 2, the people of Guinea, with whom we are bound by historical relations of friendship and cooperation, celebrate their national holiday – the Day of the Declaration of Independence. Our country has contributed in every way to the formation of the Guinean statehood. With her support, large civilian infrastructure facilities were built in Guinea (the capital’s university, the central stadium), bauxite mining enterprises were launched, railways and highways were reconstructed, geophysical prospecting and survey works were carried out, and large areas of agricultural land were developed.
They also helped Guinean friends afterwards. Since March 2014, Russia has been actively involved in the fight against the Ebola epidemic that broke out in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, which made it possible by 2016 to stop the spread of this formidable disease in West Africa.
We continue to provide comprehensive assistance to Guinea, including in the trade, economic and humanitarian spheres, training of national personnel, and the fight against COVID-19. Domestic companies are successfully operating in the Republic of Guinea, primarily UC RUSAL and Rospotrebnadzor specialists.
Guinea is going through difficult times in the wake of the recent violent change of government. We consider it extremely important to ensure the prompt return of the situation to the constitutional field. We believe that the uncontested way out of the current crisis is the restoration of law and order, the rejection of violence, and the organization of an inclusive national dialogue. We support the mediation efforts of ECOWAS and the African Union aimed at normalizing the situation in the country.
We are confident that the time-tested versatile ties between Russia and Guinea will continue to develop fruitfully in the interests of both states. We would like to wish the friendly Guinean people successful overcoming of the current difficult period in their history, success in ensuring the speedy revival of the country, restoration of its active role in international affairs, peace, prosperity and well-being.
