The route includes such architectural masterpieces as the House with Lions, the apartment building of Alexander Dmitrievich Sidamon-Eristov and the residential building of the Teplobeton trust.
A cycle of free excursions to iconic housing facilities will take place in the capital. It is organized by Fund for capital repairs of apartment buildings in Moscow… The cultural project is timed to coincide with World Architecture Day, which is celebrated on October 4 this year.
The excursions will be conducted by Georgy Makeev, winner of the “Best Moscow Guide” competition. All week, from October 4 to October 10 inclusive, he will wait for everyone at 10:00 near the famous House with Lions at the address: Ermolaevsky Lane, Building 9. No prior registration is required.
During the excursion, Muscovites and guests of the capital will hear exciting stories about the inhabitants of the First See, learn to distinguish between modern and neoclassicism, and learn the secrets of Moscow’s non-tourist streets. And most importantly, they will see how the city is being transformed thanks to the regional capital repair program.
Informative program with a story about the famous General’s House with lions. Mikhail Dzisko and Nikolai Gaigarov were commissioned to design and build it. The project was supervised by Ivan Zholtovsky, one of the most famous architects of that time and the largest representative of retrospectivism in Soviet architecture.
The exterior of the building resembles a noble estate. Because of the sculptures of lions, the building is often mistaken for a tenement house of the pre-revolutionary period. The facade is decorated with eight half-columns with Corinthian capitals. At the moment, the house is replacing power supply networks, repairing hot and cold water supply systems, central heating and the roof. The main focus is on carrying out complex work within the framework of the overhaul of the facade and entrances. Preserving the original architectural decor and the unique historical portrait of this famous house is an important and extremely significant task.
The neighboring apartment house of Alexander Dmitrievich Sidamon-Eristov is a bright representative of neoclassicism. The central part of the facade at the level of the second floor is decorated with a portico with Ionic capitals, on top of which there is a stucco cornice. In the piers between the window openings and behind the columns, there are bas-reliefs stylized as antiquity. In the 30s of the last century, the building was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Directorate of the USSR Ministry of Defense, after which prominent army commanders received apartments here. This apartment building is also included in the regional overhaul program. Now it is carrying out work on the repair of engineering systems of cold water supply, water disposal and heat supply. The roof, entrances, fire water supply and, of course, the facade of the building are being repaired. The work on the power supply networks has already been completed.
The residential building of the Teplobeton trust, located at 24/1 Spiridonovka Street, was built in the style of constructivism and differs significantly from other excursion objects. The experimental five-storey building is distinguished by an interesting corner façade, the upper part of which is decorated with a bas-relief depicting allegorical figures of technology, science and art. On the side facades there are loggias that support thin rectangular columns. An attic floor is arranged on top. The facades are completed with cornices, which are supported by consoles.
An apartment building built in 1933 is included in the regional overhaul program. Here, work has already been successfully completed on the replacement of power supply, heat supply and cold water supply networks. The roof, basement and facade of the house have been renovated. Work is underway to replace the drainage system and repair the entrances.
Since this year, the city has allocated special subsidies to carry out restoration work in apartment buildings that are objects of cultural heritage. In residential buildings-monuments, which have complex architectural elements (for example, stucco decoration, bas-reliefs, stained glass window fillings, artistic fences of balconies and parapets), additional work is carried out aimed at restoring their historical appearance. Now, under this program, work is underway at 14 objects, of which nine are planned to be commissioned this year.
World Architecture Day has been celebrated since 1985. However, initially the first Monday of July was chosen as the holiday date. In 1996, the International Union of Architects decided to postpone the date to the first Monday in October.
