At the Doytyn Am training ground in Mongolia, during the Selenga-2021 joint Russian-Mongolian exercise, artillery units of the Russian and Morngolian armed forces used a reconnaissance and fire contour for the first time when delivering a massive fire strike against a simulated enemy.

For this, for the first time in the exercise “Selenga-2021”, under the leadership of the chief of artillery of the armed forces of Mongolia, an artillery group was created, consisting of several divisions, designed to act in the interests of the tactical groups of the two countries. The results of fire engagement of targets were monitored using unmanned aerial vehicles, which transmitted information in real time for adjusting fire to the command post.

In addition, during the exercise, tank and motorized rifle units of the two countries jointly worked out the tasks of conducting reconnaissance, search and offensive operations.

Air defense units with the help of self-propelled anti-aircraft guns “Shilka” and anti-aircraft guns ZU-23-2 destroyed the aircraft of the simulated enemy, after which they opened fire on ground targets, imitating lightly armored vehicles of the “enemy”

In turn, the personnel of the army aviation performed a number of tasks in the interests of units of the joint grouping of forces, including conducting aerial reconnaissance, providing fire support, mining the terrain from the air and landing transport tasks.

The international exercise Selenga-2021 started on September 22, it involved servicemen of a motorized rifle unit of the combined-arms army of the Eastern Military District, stationed in the Republic of Buryatia, and units of the armed forces of Mongolia with a total number of about 1.5 thousand personnel and more than 200 units of military equipment. The Selenga-2021 exercise is aimed at combating international terrorism and is timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Mongolian armed forces and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mongolia.
