An exhibition “Leningrad – Tankograd”, timed to coincide with the Day of the Heroes of Tankograd, has opened at the military training center at the South Ural State University.

It presents the finds of the University search group “Search”, brought from the battlefield in the area of Sinyavinskiye heights of the Kirovsky district of the Leningrad region. Over the years, the search engines have unearthed the remains of more than 200 Red Army soldiers, found seven medallions, and identified the names of three servicemen.

The exhibition tells about the evacuation of enterprises from besieged Leningrad in the fall of 1941, about the deployment of Leningrad factories at the Chelyabinsk industrial sites, about the work and life of Leningraders in Tankograd – at the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant. Here are the documents about the creators of the tanks L.S. Troyanov and J. Ya. Kotin, about the testers of combat vehicles, about the famous front-line brigades of the Kirov plant. There are also photographs of dramatic moments of the evacuation of besieged Leningrad.

A special place at the exhibition is devoted to the children’s theme. During the war years Chelyabinsk gave shelter to many children evacuated from Leningrad. By March 1, 1942, there were 298 evacuated children’s institutions in the Chelyabinsk region, there were 9458 Leningrad children in them. In Chelyabinsk, factory workers collected five million rubles, clothes for orphanages and kindergartens.

On October 6, a memorable date is celebrated in the Chelyabinsk region – the Day of the Heroes of Tankograd. It was installed on August 18, 2016.
