A festive event in honor of the 85th anniversary of the foundation of the Chelyabinsk Higher Military Aviation School (January 1, 2016 renamed into the Chelyabinsk branch of the VUNC Air Force “Air Force Academy”), which was attended by the pilots of the aerobatics group “Strizhi”, was held at the Shagol airfield in Chelyabinsk.

The solemn formation of the personnel of the school was attended by teachers, cadets and graduates of the school, as well as honored guests – veterans. On the anniversary, the military educational institution was congratulated by the chief navigator of the Russian Air Force, Colonel Anatoly Menyailo, the head of the branch, Major General Igor Shvedov, as well as representatives of the administration of the Chelyabinsk region.

The oldest educational institution of the Air Force was also congratulated by the pilots of the Swifts air group, who performed the most complex aerobatics in the sky: group barrels, rebuildings, Nesterov’s loops, hovering and turns. During piloting, the aces pilots maintained minimum intervals and distances between aircraft, and also performed elements at ultra-low altitudes.

The Chelyabinsk Higher Military Aviation School of Navigators was founded on October 1, 1936. In 1944, the school was awarded the Order of the Red Banner. During its existence, more than 40 thousand aviation specialists have been trained within the walls of the educational institution, including 28 Heroes of the Soviet Union, six Heroes of Russia, one graduate was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor
