On October 7, at the Pervomaisk cadet school of the Tula region, a bust was unveiled to the founder of the country’s civil defense, Marshal of the Soviet Union, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Vasily Ivanovich Chuikov.
The event was attended by employees of the EMERCOM of Russia, the leadership of the Main Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia in the Tula region, representatives of the Tula Regional Duma, territorial bodies of federal executive bodies in the Tula region, public associations, as well as descendants of the legendary Soviet military leaders, including Vasily Chuikov.
It was Vasily Chuikov who in 1961 founded and headed the civil defense of the USSR, creating an effective system of national defense measures to protect the population, territories and objects of the national economy. Under his leadership, all civil defense measures of a national and national character were planned and implemented throughout the country and concerned every citizen. The system of protective measures was supposed to ensure the protection of the population and territories of the country from all possible damaging factors of weapons of mass destruction.
“Vasily Chuikov managed not only to reliably strengthen the foundation of the civil defense system, but also to outline the main guidelines for its further development. The erection of a bust to the famous Marshal, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Vasily Chuikov, who went through the Civil, Soviet-Finnish and Great Patriotic War, contributes to preserving the history of our country, educating employees and the younger generation in the spirit of devotion to the Fatherland, “said Deputy Director of the Department of Civil Defense and Population Protection of the Russian Emergencies Ministry Vladislav Gadeev.
The site of the monument was not chosen by chance. This year, at the initiative of the Tula Rescue Department with the support of the regional government, the May Day Cadet School was named after Marshal Vasily Chuikov.
According to the head of the Main Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia in the Tula Region, Alexei Pavlov, most of the cadets in the future would like to become real defenders of the Motherland. It is especially honorable and important for the children to understand that the monument to the person who has done so much for the defense system of the Motherland will be installed on the territory of their educational institution and will inspire cadets, firefighters and rescuers to selfless service to the Motherland.
The participants in the ceremony thanked everyone who took part in the organization and creation of the monument. The event ended with the laying of flowers at the monument to the military leader.
Recall that Vasily Ivanovich Chuikov – Soviet military leader, Marshal of the Soviet Union (1955), twice Hero of the Soviet Union (1944, 1945), commander-in-chief of a group of Soviet forces in Germany (1949-1953), commander of the Kiev military district (1953-1960), commander-in-chief of the Ground troops of the USSR, Deputy Minister of Defense of the USSR (1960-1964). From 1942 to 1946 – commander of the 62nd Army (8th Guards Army), which distinguished itself in the Battle of Stalingrad.
