The crew of the Northern Fleet hydrographic vessel “Romuald Muklevich” confirmed the coordinates of the location at the bottom of the Barents Sea of the patrol ship “Tuman”, which died in an unequal battle with three Nazi destroyers 80 years ago. Hydrographers also discovered the Bluebell corvette, the Matabele destroyer, the Passat patrol ship and an unknown ship – presumably the RT-67, which perished along with the Passat.

The Severomors performed more than one and a half thousand kilometers of instrumental assessment of the bottom relief.

Hydrographic research was the final episode of the joint action of the Northern Fleet and the Russian Geographical Society “Remember the War”, during which activities are being carried out to search for and perpetuate the memory of those killed in the defense of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War.

Earlier – in August and September – the hydrographic vessel “Romuald Muklevich” for 52 days participated in several stages of the complex expedition of the Northern Fleet and the Russian Geographical Society “Remember the War”. The research was carried out in the waters of the Barents and Kara Seas, off the coast of Severny Novaya Zemlya Island and the continental coast, where the routes of northern convoys passed during the Great Patriotic War. Several underwater objects have been discovered. Most of them are ships and vessels that died in the early and middle of the 20th century.

The research group confirmed the coordinates of the previously discovered by the search and rescue forces of the large hunter “BO-224” and the submarine D-3 “Krasnogravdeets”, the German submarines U-307 and U-387. In addition, in the Kara Sea, the coordinates of previously discovered ships and vessels of the BD-5 convoy, which died there in 1944, were confirmed.

At the site of the sinking of the D-3 submarine, the Marina Raskova transport, the minesweepers TSH-114 and TSH-118, the members of the expedition held commemorative events with the laying of wreaths on the water.
