In the Moscow region, the personnel of the Guards self-propelled artillery of the Simferopol Red Banner, the orders of Suvorov, Kutuzov and Alexander Nevsky regiment of the tank association of the Western Military District are celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the regiment.
As part of the solemn events, an open day was organized in the regiment, members of the Federation Council from the Republic of Crimea, the hero of the Russian Federation, the commander of the Taman division in 1992-1995, Colonel General Valery Evgenievich, as well as deputies of the Simferopol city council, spoke to the servicemen and guests of the regiment.
During the open day, everyone got acquainted with the life and combat training of the personnel of the Guards Simferopol regiment, visited the exposition of the combat path of the regiment in the museum of the Taman Guards division, tasted the soldier’s porridge prepared with the help of the KP-130 field kitchen, and an exhibition of military equipment was held on the parade ground , which is in service with the regiment.
As part of the celebrations, more than 20 officers of the regiment were awarded with mementos and medals “For Merit in the Fight against International Terrorism” and “The 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of Crimea from Nazi Invaders”.
For reference: The regiment, which was called the 594th cannon regiment during its formation in the fall of 1941, participated in the Great Patriotic War in the defense of Kharkov, Kursk, in the Battle of Stalingrad – it was then that it received the rank of guards and number 85, with which it heroically moved to the Crimea peninsula. On April 24, 1944, for the liberation of Simferopol, the regiment was given the honorary name “Simferopol”, and exactly one month later, for the storming of Sapun Mountain and the liberation of Sevastopol, part of it was awarded the Order of the Red Banner. The second award, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, was earned by the soldiers in September 1944 for participating in the storming of the Osovets fortress. Order of Kutuzov – also in September 44th, for participation in the storming of the city of Ostrolenka, and in February 1945 – the Order of Suvorov for breaking through the enemy’s defenses on the Narew River, east of Warsaw.
