In the Kaluga Region, the Memory Watch “Kaluga Frontier – 2021”, which was held in preparation for a memorable date – the 80th anniversary of the Vyazemskaya airborne operation, which will be celebrated in 2022, has ended.

Every year, search engines from Kaluga, Moscow, Smodensk, and Bryansk regions take part in the Kaluga Frontier Memorial Watch, which has been held since 1982.

This year, search work was carried out in the places of the landing of the airborne assault carried out in 1942 and the conduct of battles by the military units of the 4th Airborne Corps, as part of the Vyazemsk airborne operation, when more than 10 thousand person with stocks of supplies.

The paratroopers of the Tula Guards airborne unit took an active part in the Watch of Memory, including the personnel and equipment of the Guards parachute regiments from Tula and Ryazan, sappers of a separate guards engineer battalion of the unit, as well as companies of radiation, chemical and biological protection.

“As part of the Watch of Remembrance, we found the remains of more than 70 paratroopers of the 4th Airborne Corps, unfortunately, only one hero was identified by the medallion. We have already contacted his relatives and invited the reburial of the remains of heroes to commemorative events “- said the chairman of the Council of the Kaluga regional organization of search units” Patriotic Association “Memory”, veteran of the Airborne Forces Sergei Novikov, – “I would like to say separate words of gratitude to the Commander of the Airborne Forces, Hero of Russia Colonel General Andrei Serdyukov for his help and support, as well as the paratroopers of the Tula Guards Airborne Force, who provided invaluable assistance in conducting search operations and returning the historical memory of the heroes of the paratroopers of the Vyazemskaya landing operation “- said the head of the search movement of the Kaluga region.

During the Kaluga Frontier-2021 Memory Watch, Tula paratroopers, using engineering and airborne equipment, discovered unexploded ordnance, after which they took them to a nearby training ground and destroyed, and also assisted in lifting the remains of the fallen heroes from the ground.

Annually, as part of the Watch of Remembrance, held since 1982, the remains of 1,000 to 3,000 dead soldiers of the Great Patriotic War are raised.
