At the beginning of this year, the city council of the resort city made a decision to perpetuate the memory of the Hero of the Soviet Union, honorary citizen of Yalta Gali Akhmetovich Mazitov and assign his name to one of the city streets.
And recently a memorial plaque appeared on one of the houses on this street. The solemn ceremony was attended by representatives of the authorities of the republic and the city, public organizations, including the local branch of DOSAAF, relatives and friends of the hero, youth soldiers.
Speakers at the rally noted that it had become a good tradition in Yalta to open memorial plaques in honor of the heroes of the war, talked about the life path and numerous exploits of the pilot-navigator of long-range aviation, the guard lieutenant colonel, whose uniform was decorated with seven orders and 21 medals.
After the war, Gali Akhmetovich continued his service in aviation, passed on combat experience to young pilots. After retiring in 1954, he moved to Yalta, where for many years he held various positions in the city structures of DOSAAF and prepared young people for service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union. Gali Akhmetovich left for his Immortal Regiment on January 30, 1993 and was buried in the Old Cemetery in Yalta.
The memorial plaque was opened by the Deputy Chairman of the Yalta City Council Denis Davydov, the Deputy Head of the City Administration Sergei Strelbitsky and the hero’s son Gennady Mazitov, who sincerely thanked everyone present for the memory of his father.
The meeting ended with the laying of flowers at the memorial plaque. Gennady Mazitov and members of the presidium of the local branch of DOSAAF in Yalta went to the hero’s grave, where they also laid flowers, and the cadets of the military-patriotic clubs of DOSAAF saluted Gali Akhmetovich Mazitov with a rifle salvo.
