In the Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineering Troops and Signal Corps, cadets of the Mikhailovskaya Military Artillery Academy, headed by the head of the academy, participated in the opening of a new exposition complex “Outstanding Soviet Armament Designers B.I. Shavyrin and S.P. Invincible”.
In addition to new exhibits, museum visitors watched a documentary film dedicated to the life and work of S.P. Invincible. The year 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous designer of high-precision guided missile weapons S.P. Invincible.
The opening ceremony of the new exposition complex was also attended by heads of enterprises and universities that train specialists and products for the domestic defense industry.
Boris Ivanovich Shavyrin was busy developing mortars. They were recognized as the best Soviet mortars. During the war, the use of mortars ensured the successful conduct of combat operations. “Shavyrinsky” mortars were light, mobile, had good accuracy, were easy to operate and easy to mass produce. Under the leadership of B.I. Shavyrin, 160 mm and 240 mm mortars, the world’s most powerful 420 mm self-propelled mortar, bombs for the Navy and recoilless guns were created and put into mass production.
Sergey Pavlovich Invincible is the author of more than three hundred scientific works¸ discoveries, inventions and publications. Under his leadership, 28 missile systems for various purposes were put into mass production and put into service. He initiated the creation in the country of high-precision mobile tactical and operational-tactical missile systems, such as Tochka, Tochka-U, Oka, Oka-U. He developed the Strela-2, Strela-2M, Strela-3, Igla-1 and Igla portable anti-aircraft missile systems. Invincible headed the development of the preliminary design of the Iskander operational-tactical missile system, which was commissioned in 2006. Thanks to the Invincible, work began on the creation of the world’s only anti-tank missile system that is capable of detecting and hitting a target in the absence of optical visibility – “Chrysanthemum-S”.
