In the clinic of neurosurgery of the Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov in St. Petersburg, a successful operation was performed using innovative methods of treatment and diagnosis. Doctors, using a unique method, removed the cavity of the functionally significant area of the brain to the young man.
A team of neurosurgeons under the leadership of the head of the clinic of neurosurgery of the Military Medical Academy, Colonel of the Medical Service Dmitry Svistov, performed a complex operation to remove the cavernoma of a military university cadet.
The young man went to the doctors with complaints of intense headache. When collecting the anamnesis, it turned out that during the last year he had been disturbed by short-term bouts of disorientation, which was regarded as focal seizures with impaired consciousness. After MRI, a cavernous malformation of the right parietal lobe was revealed. It was decided to promptly remove the cavernoma of the functionally significant brain area. To determine the exact localization and safe removal of the cavernoma, it was decided to use a combination of combined intraoperative navigation (combined with an operating microscope) and neurophysiological monitoring.
As a result of the new method, a radical and safe removal of the cavernoma was achieved. No negative dynamics was observed after the operation. In a satisfactory condition, the patient was discharged from the hospital and returned to his studies at the university.
A cavernoma is a process in the brain that affects the walls of blood vessels. Filling of cavities-cavities can represent thrombi or blood, which do not have access to the general blood flow.
