Nice is interested in Moscow’s experience in introducing an environmentally friendly mode of transport.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin held a meeting with the Mayor of Nice, the chairman of the metropolis Nice-Cote d’Azur (France) Christian Estrosi, who is in the Russian capital on a working trip.
They discussed the development of bilateral cooperation in various fields, including the modernization of public transport and the introduction of digital technologies in the urban management system.
As Sergei Sobyanin noted, Moscow is the greenest metropolis in the world, which, as a matter of priority, is engaged in the development of public transport on electric traction. Here, in particular, is the largest electric bus fleet in Europe. There are 800 electric buses on city routes, and by the end of this year their number will increase to a thousand.
According to Christian Estrosi, Nice is interested in Moscow’s experience in introducing an environmentally friendly mode of transport. He also noted the success of the Russian capital in creating a smart city, whose technologies help, among other things, to ensure the safety of citizens.
In addition, the heads of Moscow and Nice exchanged experiences in combating the spread of COVID-19 and expressed interest in further developing cooperation.
The fruitful bilateral relations are based on the cooperation program signed in 2019 between the Moscow Government, the Nice City Hall and the Nice-Cote d’Azur metropolis.
Constructive interaction connects the Russian capital with other cities in France. Moscow has traditionally strong business, cultural and social ties with Paris. In recent years, relations with Strasbourg and Marseille have been actively developing. At the level of the prefectures of the administrative districts, contacts are maintained with a number of French cities, including Cannes, Lyon, Nancy, Mormand.
Last year, trade between organizations registered in Moscow and French partners amounted to $ 4.6 billion, and in the first quarter of 2021 – $ 1.2 billion. France retains the seventh place in terms of mutual trade among foreign partners of the Russian capital, which it occupied in 2020.
About 170 companies with French capital in the authorized capital are registered in Moscow. As of January 1, 2021, the volume of accumulated French investments in the Moscow economy amounted to almost $ 4.6 billion (according to this indicator, France ranks seventh among foreign countries).
