In the Moscow region, the personnel of the Guards self-propelled artillery of the Simferopol Red Banner, the orders of Suvorov, Kutuzov and Alexander Nevsky regiment of the tank association of the Western Military District celebrates the 80th anniversary of its foundation.

As part of the celebrations, an open day was organized in the military unit. Members of the Federation Council from the Republic of Crimea, the commander of the Taman division in 1992-1995, Hero of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General Valery Yevnevich, as well as deputies of the Simferopol City Council, addressed the servicemen and guests of the regiment.

In honor of the 80th anniversary, powerful volleys were fired by calculations of 125-mm guns of self-propelled howitzers “Msta-S” and batteries of multiple launch rocket systems “Tornado-G”.

During the open day, everyone got acquainted with the life and combat training of the personnel of the Simferopol regiment, in the museum of the Taman Guards Division they examined the exposition telling about the combat path of the military unit, tried the soldier’s porridge prepared with the help of the KP-130 field kitchen, and passed on the parade ground exhibition of military equipment in service with the regiment.

As part of the celebrations, more than 20 officers of the regiment were awarded with mementos and medals “For Merit in the Fight against International Terrorism” and “The 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of Crimea from Nazi Invaders”.

At the joint strategic Russian-Belarusian exercise of the SSU “West-2021”, the military personnel of the regiment performed combat training tasks at the Belarusian training ground Obuz-Lesnovsky. All targets were hit successfully, and in general the regiment received an excellent mark for the exercise. Self-propelled howitzers “Gvozdika”, self-propelled guns “Hyacinth” in conjunction with multiple launch rocket systems “Grad” and “Uragan”, as well as “Msta-S” made more than 1000 salvoes and hit over 200 targets, which imitated command posts, command posts and enemy manpower.

The regiment, which was called the 594th cannon regiment during the formation in the fall of 1941, participated in the Great Patriotic War in the defense of Kharkov, Kursk, in the Battle of Stalingrad – it was then that it received the rank of Guards and number 85, with which it heroically moved to the Crimea peninsula. On April 24, 1944, for the liberation of Simferopol, the regiment was given the honorary name “Simferopol”, and exactly one month later, for the storming of Sapun Mountain and the liberation of Sevastopol, part of it was awarded the Order of the Red Banner. The second award – the Order of Alexander Nevsky – was awarded to the regiment in September 1944 for participating in the storming of the Osovets fortress. Order of Kutuzov – also in September 44th, for participation in the storming of the city of Ostrolenka, and in February 1945 – the Order of Suvorov for breaking through the enemy’s defenses on the Narew River, east of Warsaw.
