Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak took part in the first day of the Russian Energy Week international forum.
As part of his participation in the first day of REW-2021, Alexander Novak held a number of bilateral meetings with Russia’s partners in the global energy market.
During the meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies Patrick Pouyanne, the Deputy Prime Minister noted the traditionally intensive and confidential nature of the Russian-French dialogue. For many years, Russia and France have been cooperating within the framework of joint projects on the territory of Russia for the production and processing of hydrocarbons, the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG), the Vice Prime Minister noted.
“We see the organization of interaction in the field of sustainable energy as the most important promising area of joint work. One of the main components here is hydrogen energy, ”he stressed.
At the same time, such work is also developing in the area of the electric power industry. Investments of the Fortum concern in Russia since 2008 have already reached 5.79 billion euros, Alexander Novak noted during a meeting with the President and CEO of the Fortum concern Markus Rauramo. During the talks, the parties outlined areas of bilateral interaction in terms of the development of the Russian energy sector and the company’s current projects.
On the sidelines of REW 2021, the Deputy Prime Minister also discussed with WEC Secretary General Angela Wilkinson the preparations for the 25th World Energy Council, scheduled to be held in St. Petersburg in October 2022. The parties considered the architecture of the meeting program, in particular, the possibility of holding a cycle of lectures and competition for solving engineering cases among international student teams on the basis of the St. Petersburg State Mining University.
“We fully support WEC’s vision of the future congress as a truly international event, providing a platform for interaction between representatives of a wide variety of approaches and views. I am sure that next year we will have a really interesting, important, and most importantly, productive discussion on the future of the global energy sector, ”the Deputy Prime Minister expressed confidence.
Also, as part of his participation in REW 2021, Alexander Novak discussed bilateral cooperation and the future of hydrogen energy with the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates Suheil Mohammed Al-Mazrui. At the moment, the countries are preparing to hold the Russian-Emirates conference on cooperation in the oil and gas and petrochemical sphere “on the fields” of ADIPEC.
The trade turnover of the two countries continues to grow, which in many respects, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, is associated with the work on the fuel and energy complex. “Russia and the United Arab Emirates have important competitive advantages in the development of hydrogen energy: the presence of significant energy potential, underutilized generating capacities, geographical proximity to potential hydrogen consumers, scientific groundwork in the production, transportation and storage of hydrogen, as well as the presence of an operating transport infrastructure. Our leading companies are interested in developing this cooperation, ”said Alexander Novak.
Hydrogen and nuclear energy, as well as the stabilization of the situation in the oil markets within the framework of OPEC + became the central topics of Alexander Novak’s meeting with the Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman on the sidelines of REW 2021. “Now there is an active cooperation between our countries on the project of creating an integrated enterprise for a full production cycle from polycrystalline silicon to solar installations and on their basis solar parks that generate electricity,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Also at the REW site, the Deputy Prime Minister held meetings with Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Suren Papikyan, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov. During the meetings, the sides discussed issues of interaction between countries in the gas sector, on the supply of oil and oil products.
In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister took part in the signing ceremonies of agreements between the Government of the Russian Federation and PJSC Transneft – in order to develop high technologies, and with PJSC Gazprom – in order to develop a high-tech region in the Russian Federation, Development of hydrogen energy and debonization of industry and transport based on natural gas ”. Also, in the presence of Alexander Novak, an agreement was signed between the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Russian Energy Agency” of the Ministry of Energy of Russia and MGIMO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and the Agreement on the basic conditions for creating a service for the lease of electric cars between JSC Hydroinvest and LLC Solers Group.
At the end of the first day of REW-2021, Alexander Novak took part in the annual Global Energy award ceremony and held a reception for the forum’s official guests.
During the Global Energy Prize award ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that the fuel and energy sectors play a significant role in decarbonizing the world economy, in particular, thanks to the use of the latest scientific developments. “Today we see an intensification of the climate agenda, the desire of countries for energy transition and minimization of the negative impact of industry on the environment. I am sure that science is precisely the area that can impartially, constructively and effectively contribute to the task of decarbonizing the world economy and energy. Today the award is included in the top 100 of the most prestigious and significant international awards. Since 2003, 45 scientists from 15 countries have become laureates of the Global Energy. I am glad that Global Energy is making an important contribution to the common cause and contributing to the harmonious and technological development of the world energy, ”said the Deputy Prime Minister.
During the official dinner, Alexander Novak noted that countries are in search of answers to the key challenges of global energy – it is increasing energy efficiency and ensuring reliable and affordable energy supply to the economy in the context of the energy transition. “We need to provide the world economy and population with affordable energy resources, while solving climatic problems without prejudice to the national interests of states. I would like to emphasize that Russia has always advocated and continues to support the development of both multilateral and bilateral mutually beneficial energy cooperation. We are interested in maintaining stable relations with traditional consumers of Russian energy resources and forming stable ties in new energy markets. I hope that the forum site will contribute to strengthening our cooperation in various formats, ”concluded Alexander Novak.
