The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

In the Tagansky district, the improvement of the Kalitnikovsky pond has begun. In recent years, the 2.4 hectare reservoir has become shallow and overgrown with algae. The thickness of bottom sediments in some places reaches three meters.

It is planned to extract about 23 thousand cubic meters of silt from the reservoir. Then the specialists of the capital’s urban complex will form a new shape of the bottom and make a waterproof layer to avoid shallowing.

Four bioplato zones with a total area of more than 800 square meters will be created along the edges of the reservoir. Common iris, marsh iris, yellow egg capsule will be planted there. These plants prevent water bloom and serve as hiding places for fish and nesting places for waterfowl.

The coastline will be cleaned up. A sandy slope will be made for 130 meters. It will be convenient for birds to land on land. The main work is planned to be completed by the end of 2021.

Kalitnikovsky pond appeared over 100 years ago on the site of the dam of the Khokhlovka river. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was hidden in an underground sewer, and the dam began to swamp and an artificial pond was created on it.

According to one version, the name of the pond is associated with the historical area of Kalitniki. The masters who lived there were called kalitniki. They made leather bags and wallets (kalits).
