An officer of the Pskov Guards Airborne Assault Formation rescued a girl drowning in the river.

On his day off, October 10, this year, Major Aleksey Bezborodov spent the guards with his family, walking along the embankment of the Velikaya River in the center of Pskov.

At that moment, he caught a glimpse of a man falling from the bridge, shouted to the drowning man in the water and heard cries for help. It was a 12-year-old teenage girl who fell from a bridge into a river drowning.

It was impossible to hesitate. Alexey, having called the rescue service, met a police patrol and immediately began to undress to dive into the icy water of the Velikaya River. At that moment, the police sergeant Denis Kuzmin was the first to jump into the water, rescued the girl and swam towards her towards the shore, but from the cold water his legs cramped and his strength began to quickly leave him, not allowing him to swim to the shore. At that moment, a paratrooper officer came to their aid, who received a girl from a police officer in the water and helped them all swim to the shore, where passers-by accepted the drowning woman and dressed them in warm clothes.

After making sure that everything was in order with the child, Alexey Bezborodov got dressed and went home.

“We dived into the water together, he a little earlier, and I swam a little later to the child,” the officer recalls. “Halfway through, I received a girl from an exhausted police officer and helped them swim to the shore together,” noted Aleksey Bezborodov.

The command of the formation and the Airborne Forces will decide on the encouragement and reward of the distinguished officer.
