Today, on the territory of the Guards Kostroma paratrooper regiment, a solemn ceremony of presenting the St.George banner of the unit to its new commander took place.

The commander of the Ivanovo guards unit of the Airborne Forces, Guards Colonel Viktor Gunaza, solemnly introduced the new commander to the regiment personnel.

The commander of the guard regiment, Colonel Oleg Shmelev, who commanded the military unit since September 2019, having said goodbye to the banner, handed it over to the new commander, the guard, Colonel Sergei Sukharev, who arrived for further military service from a separate airborne assault unit stationed in Ulyanovsk, where he served in the position of deputy commander of the formation.

Speaking to those present, the commander of the Ivanovo Airborne Forces, which includes the Kostroma Regiment, Guards Colonel Viktor Gunaza said: “Handing this military relic into the hands of an experienced commander, Sergei Sukharev, we are confident that the regiment’s traditions will continue. I am confident that the new commander will not only not diminish the prestige of the Guardsmen, but will preserve and increase them. And I wish the Guard Colonel Shmelev new successes in his superior position. “

The ritual of transferring the St.George banner to the new regiment commander ended with a solemn march of units.

For reference:

Guard Colonel Sergei Sukharev went through all the steps of the commander’s path from the commander of an airborne platoon to the deputy commander of an airborne assault regiment.

After graduating from the Combined Arms Academy of the RF Armed Forces in 2016, he served as deputy commander of the Ulyanovsk Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade.
