The ceremonial formation and rewarding of the specialists of the consolidated detachment of the EMERCOM of Russia took place on the central embankment of Feodosia.

Demining work on the Soviet motor ship “Jean Zhores” lasted a little over a month. During this time, more than 15,000 explosive objects of various calibers were raised and destroyed. A group of pyrotechnic divers from the Russian Emergencies Ministry carried out almost 400 descents, with a total duration of 263 hours. At a depth of 18 meters, with almost zero visibility, complex underwater technical work was carried out.

This year, in addition to explosives of various calibers, a three-ton Soviet half-track truck ZIS-33 was raised from the fourth hold of the ship. The experts assessed his condition as quite satisfactory. After restoration and restoration work, it will take its place among the exhibits of the Feodosia Museum of Antiquities. Despite the fact that this year the weather made adjustments to the work of the EMERCOM of Russia consolidated detachment, all the tasks set for the survey of the sunken motor ship, the search, recovery and further destruction of explosives were successfully completed.

To carry out the operation, a consolidated detachment of the Russian Emergencies Ministry was formed. It included a Special Marine Detachment of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Republic of Crimea, a Specialized Detachment of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia for the city of Sevastopol, 4 fire and rescue squad of the Federal Fire Service for the Republic of Crimea, the GIMS Center, as well as the Feodosia ASO GKU RK “Crimea- Saved”. A total of 44 personnel, 7 units of special equipment and 7 watercraft.

At the time of the work, part of the Feodosiya Bay water area was closed for the movement of small vessels. The inspectors of the State Inspection Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia were constantly patrolling the coastal zone.

Recall that during the Second World War, the cargo ship “Jean Zhores” sank off the coast of the Feodosia Bay, which carried out transportation during the Kerch-Feodosia landing operation. On January 4, 1942, he was attacked by enemy aircraft. The Jean Zhores team managed to repair the ship and set the course for Feodosia. But just a few days later, the ship was blown up by a magnetic mine. After a long struggle for the survivability of the ship, it was decided to sink the ship.
