The tunnel is being built using the Milanese method, which allows less restriction of traffic on the Kiev highway.

The construction of a tunnel under the Kievskoe highway as part of the Solntsevo – Butovo – Varshavskoe highway route has been completed by 60 percent. It is being erected on the section from Borovskoye to Kievskoye highway, the length of which is 7.6 kilometers, the Deputy Mayor for Urban Development Policy and Construction said. Andrey Bochkarev

“The construction of a section of the route includes the construction of two artificial structures: an overpass across Borovskoe highway with a length of 243 meters and a tunnel under the Kievskoe highway with a length of 73 meters,” he said.

According to Andrei Bochkarev, the main monolithic structures have already been assembled for the tunnel, engineering communications and equipment are being installed, as well as finishing work.

“Today, we estimate the overall construction readiness of the tunnel under the Kievskoe highway at 60 percent,” the deputy mayor added.

The underground section is built using the so-called Milanese method. This allows less restriction of traffic, said the head Moscow Construction Department Rafik Zagrutdinov

“The builders first made a wall in the ground, marking the boundaries of the future tunnel, then they installed floor slabs to organize traffic along the Kiev highway as usual, and then continued work in the tunnel itself,” he explained.

The Solntsevo – Butovo – Varshavskoe highway runs from Borovskoe to Kievskoe highways, then through Kievskoe and Kaluzhskoe highways to Varshavskoe shosse. It connects four highways and provides a cross-link between the areas under construction in the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky administrative areas.

This highway will become part of the road frame new territories of the city. In addition to it, it will include the reconstructed Kievskoe, Kaluzhskoe and Varshavskoe highways, the Central Ring Road, a network of local roads and city streets in new residential areas. To form the transport framework of the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky administrative areas, it is planned to build more than 500 kilometers of roads by the end of 2024.
