October 18 marked the 115th anniversary of the founding of the St. Petersburg University of the State Fire Service of the EMERCOM of Russia. The solemn events were attended by the Acting Head of the EMERCOM of Russia Alexander Chupriyan and the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, as well as Deputy Ministers of the Rescue Department Alexey Serko and Anatoly Suprunovsky, members of the City Government.

The university traces its history back to 1906, when courses of fire technicians and an exemplary fire station were organized in the building of the Yamskiy fire reserve of St. Petersburg. It was on its basis that the beginning of professional fire-technical education in the country was laid. At the moment, the university has more than 50 thousand graduates. The total number of students now in all forms is about 10.5 thousand people. Almost 270 faculty members teach at 28 departments.

As part of the anniversary, the ceremony of swearing in cadets and taking the solemn Oath by university cadets took place. Almost 240 people stood on the parade ground – future fire safety engineers, technosphere safety engineers, lawyers, forensic experts, analysts and specialists of other professions in demand in the EMERCOM of Russia system.

“About 6 thousand specialists annually graduate from our educational institutions and are distributed among the departments of the department. This is an army, and not a small one. Now, being here, I feel pride and nostalgia. After all, the more specialists EMERCOM of Russia leave this university, the less grief there will be in our country. From here are graduated specialists who determine the future of our country, ”A. Chupriyan emphasized.

After the oath, the final of the competition for overcoming a special firefighters’ lane for the cup of the former head of the university Leonid Ivanovich Isachenko took place. This year the veteran of the service turned 95 years old. For personal merits in ensuring fire safety, he was awarded the title “Honored Firefighter of the Russian Federation”.

During the visit, the Acting Head of the EMERCOM of Russia got acquainted with the possibilities of an innovative class for training fire brigade personnel and held a working meeting with the head of the university, Bogdan Gavkalyuk. In conclusion, he attended a festive concert, where he presented departmental awards to cadets and employees of the educational institution.

It should be noted that today the St. Petersburg University of the State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia is the leader among the universities of the department in terms of the number of specialties and areas of training. Last year, it created a competence center for ensuring the security of the Arctic zone of Russia, which also included leading scientists and scientific workers. Also on its basis there is a Youth Center, which unites youth public organizations.
