MIL OSI Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

6 October 2021 Secretariat NATO officially notified of the decision of the Secretary General of the alliance J. Stoltenberg to revoke the accreditation of 8 employees of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation from November 1, 2021, and also to reduce from the same number the total number of the diplomatic mission to 10 people. No explanation was provided for the reasons.

The size of our diplomatic mission in Brussels has already been reduced twice unilaterally by NATO in 2015 and 2018 – after the alliance’s decision on April 1, 2014 to suspend all practical civil and military cooperation between Russia and NATO. The admission of our diplomats to the headquarters of the alliance and relations with its international secretariat were also limited as much as possible. Contacts on the military line are frozen.

The aforementioned actions of NATO members confirm that they are not interested in an equal dialogue and joint work to de-escalate military-political tensions. The alliance’s line towards our country is becoming more and more aggressive. The “Russian threat” is inflated, incl. in order to strengthen the internal unity of the alliance, to create the appearance of its “relevance” in modern geopolitical conditions.

In response to these unfriendly actions, the Russian side adopted the following decisions:

– Due to the absence, as a result of purposeful steps on the part of NATO, of appropriate conditions for the implementation of diplomatic activities, the work of the Permanent Mission of Russia to NATO is suspended, incl. The Chief Military Representative;

To maintain emergency contacts with the headquarters of the alliance, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Belgium will be authorized. At the discretion of the alliance, one of the ambassadors of NATO member states in Moscow can perform similar functions.

– The activities of the NATO Military Liaison Mission in Moscow are suspended. The accreditation of its employees is revoked on November 1, 2021;

– The activities of the NATO Information Office in Moscow, established at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium, are terminated.

The NATO International Secretariat is officially informed about the decision of the Russian side.
