In Moscow, as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Military Orchestra Service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the second in the history of the modern Russian army will be held a review competition of military conductors of military orchestras of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
16 conductors of military bands deployed in the territories of the Western, Southern, Central and Eastern military districts, as well as the Northern Fleet will take part in the competition.
Earlier, the competition for military conductors was held only once in 1991-1992. The idea for its holding belonged to Major General Nikolai Mikhailov, who headed the Military Orchestral Service from 1976 to 1993.
Review-competition of military conductors of military bands of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in 2021 is held in order to improve the performing skills and drill training of military conductors, improve their service and creative activities, expand repertoire practice, exchange experience in musical support of military rituals, cultural and public events , on the military-patriotic, aesthetic and cultural education of the personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
Competitive events will take place from 18 to 24 October at the Military Institute (military conductors) of the Military University of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Central Military Band of the Ministry of Defense of Russia. Participants will be offered three challenges. The performances of the contestants will be evaluated according to a ten-point system. On the first day, the drawing of lots will take place in order for the conductors to pass the tests. On October 19 they will have to complete the task “Instrumentation for a military band”. Contestants will perform written work on instrumentation (orchestration, arrangement or transposition) of a piece of a piece of music for the middle ensemble of a brass band. On October 20, at the parade ground of the Military Institute, the contestants will face the second test, “Controlling a military band in the ranks,” during which they will have to demonstrate their work in running a military band while providing musical support for one of the military rituals. The final task “Methodology for rehearsal work with a military orchestra” will be held on October 21 and 22 in the orchestra studio of the Central Military Orchestra of the RF Ministry of Defense.
A permanent participant and a visiting card of the Spasskaya Tower Festival will be involved in the Review-Competition. The Central Military Orchestra of the Russian Ministry of Defense (head of the orchestra – Honored Artist of Russia, Colonel S. Yu. Durygin), Cadets Orchestra of the Military Institute (military conductors) of the Military University (head Institute – Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, Colonel S. S. Vovk) and the Military Orchestra of the Military University (the head of the orchestra is the military conductor Lieutenant Colonel F. O. Samonin).
Summing up the results of the Review-Contest and awarding the winners will take place on October 22. And on October 24, a gala concert will be held at the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army with the participation of prize winners of the Review.
