In the city of Luga, Leningrad Region, solemn events were held to mark the 80th anniversary of the formation of the guards unit of the combined arms army of the Western Military District.

During the events, an award was given to servicemen who showed a high level of professional training in 2021.

Before the veterans of the unit and the personnel of the formation, the deputy commander of the combined arms formation, Colonel Alexander Vereshchaka, as well as the deputy head of the administration of the Luga municipal district, Aleksey Viktorovich Golubev, made solemn words.

For the guests of the event, the melodies of the war years were performed by the orchestra of the Luga military garrison, and the military personnel of the reconnaissance unit organized a demonstration of hand-to-hand combat techniques and actions to free the hostage.

The Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Sevastopol Red Banner Brigade named after the Latvian Riflemen is the successor to the 13th Guards Rifle Regiment, formed on September 18, 1941 on the basis of the 666th Rifle Regiment. The servicemen of the unit during the Great Patriotic War defended Leningrad in the area of ​​Mga, Sinyavino and Volkhov. For the courage and heroism shown by the servicemen in the fight against the Nazi invaders during the liberation of the Crimea, the unit was awarded the honorary name “Sevastopol”. The unit ended the war with participation in the encirclement of Konigsberg, the Zemland group of the German army and access to the Baltic Sea coast.
