In the Yaroslavl Region, the duty shifts of the aircraft guidance points of the Leningrad Army of the Air Force and the Air Defense of the Western Military District worked out training tasks for guiding fighter aircraft to conditional air targets at night.

According to target designations from aviation guidance points, MiG-31BM fighter-interceptors, which flew to intercept from an airfield in the Tver region, were aimed at intruder control targets. When performing an intercept flight, the aircraft crew must detect an air target at a given altitude and carry out an attack. The guidance process is associated with the flight of a fighter along a certain trajectory and at a certain engine operating mode.

During the guidance of the aircraft, in addition to maneuvers in the horizontal plane, vertical ascending and descending maneuvers were also carried out, allowing in a short time to suddenly bring the fighter to its starting position for an attack.

The training involved about 20 units of aviation and special equipment.
