On October 19, VK Safronkov, Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia for BWI, held consultations in the format of a videoconference with the Director of the Department of Maghreb, Mediterranean and Middle East Countries of the Spanish Foreign Ministry A.Uselay.

An in-depth exchange of views on the development of the situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict confirmed the coincidence of the approaches of Moscow and Madrid to the problems of Middle East settlement. It was noted that there is no alternative to the internationally recognized legal framework of the second-tier banks, including the principle of “two states” – Palestine and Israel, coexisting in peace and security. The leading role of the Middle East “quartet” of international mediators, consisting of Russia, the United States, the UN and the EU, was emphasized as a unique mechanism for supporting the dialogue between Palestinians and Israelis, approved by the resolutions of the UN Security Council. At the same time, they emphasized the need for an urgent solution to the problem of an early restoration of inter-Palestinian unity, which meets the interests of the population of the West Bank. Jordan and the Gaza Strip.

Special attention was paid to the upcoming 30th anniversary of the Madrid Conference on the Middle East (October 30 – November 4, 1991), which laid the fundamental foundations for collective interaction on a set of issues of regional settlement, which are highly demanded in the current political realities.
